Some people are reluctant to be a Liberty volunteer because their schedules are irregular or don’t allow for extended periods of free time. This type of lifestyle is perfectly suited to the Rescue and Transport Team of Liberty Wildlife. The people in this department don’t have to commit to a given time period on a specific day. Instead, they are on a list of trained rescuers who are on call when needed. If they don’t get the call from the phone volunteer due to work or other schedule requirements, the person making the phone call will simply proceed to the next volunteer on the list in that area.
Being a Rescue and Transport Volunteer can be a very rewarding activity. This group is one of the main avenues in which Liberty Wildlife will interface with the community during the year, and the way most of the animals we take in arrive at the facility. The Rescue and Transport person will get a call from one of the phone volunteers and, if the situation warrants it, travel to the site where the animal has been seen, or in some cases contained, by the person who made the call to the Hotline. The animal is then transported to our facility for any required medical intervention and rehabilitation before release or alternate disposition.
