Now, Anne's work with Liberty and her commitment to the care of the birds and conservation in the wild have earned recognition from her peers in the art community. The Artists for Conservation Foundation (AFC) (http://www.natureartists.com/) named Anne the "Conservation Artist of the Month" for February 2008.
"This is a thrill to be recognized, but the credit for Liberty's success goes to the commitment of its more than 300 volunteers. From the medical staff to rescue/transport to daily care, orphan care, the hotline, the research staff and my friends with the education team, we all live and share Liberty's mission with thousands of Arizonans each year," said Anne.
The AFC Conservation Artist Award is awarded monthly to honor a member for outstanding artistic talent and extraordinary contribution to the conservation cause. At the end of each year, a prior recipient of the monthly honor is selected for the annual Simon Combes Conservation Award.
Previous winners include Robert Bateman, John Banovich, Gamini Ratnavira, Tony Pridham, and the late Simon Combes.
Liberty volunteers can still purchase some of Anne's artwork and contribute directly to Liberty Wildlife. Anne has created five pieces of art featuring some of Liberty's most popular avian ambassadors. These five portraits - Duncan (red-tailed hawk), Elliot (American kestrel), Frodo (burrowing owl), Hedwig (great horned owl), and Snickers (great horned owl) - are still available as open-edition prints in a special offer for Liberty volunteers.
Liberty Wildlife volunteers can purchase giclee prints of the five birds for $30 each (the entire set of five for $150). Each print sold will generate $10 for Liberty Wildlife.
Her art is also featured in Liberty's Wildlife's AWE animal sponsorship books about Hedwig the great horned owl, Cassie and Elliot the American kestrels, and the upcoming book for Apache the golden eagle.
