I went to Maine for fall break this year. While I was there, I went to the Center for Wildlife in Cape Neddick, Maine. They had a lot of raptors there! My favorite was a snowy owl. He was just as I imagined; white and majestic. They also had a lot of turtles and three squirrels. I actually got to hold the squirrels!
I got to go into the birds’ dwellings and see them right up close. I also got to visit with a magnificent peregrine falcon named Frea. It was really cool to see her interact with her human companion.
I also saw a double crested cormorant at the beach in Cape Neddick. I watched it for about twenty minutes going under the water and splashing, and then it finally took off! It was amazing!
I was staying at my grandparents’ farm in Maine where I saw many, many songbirds. My favorite was the white breasted nuthatch. I loved how they kept climbing up and down the tree. I also liked the song of the northern flicker. Whenever I heard it, I knew I was going to have a great day. It is my lucky sound!
We saw a lot of wild turkeys. They’re very popular up there and I like looking at their colorful feathers. I also love finding and looking at blue jay feathers found on the ground.
It is so interesting to go to a different part of the country and see how the wildlife changes! I am a very lucky birder to see all of these remarkable birds!
When I came back to Phoenix, I saw an amazing snowy egret in flight when I went to the zoo on a field trip. I know wherever I go birding, I’ll have a great time!
