James Dawson
Wildlife Scientist

As head of the Research and Conservation Department, Jim Dawson brings over 25 years of expertise and experience as a wildlife biologist to Liberty Wildlife. His work has taken him to varied places from the scorching deserts of the American Southwest to the misty rainforests of the southern Caribbean. In the western United States, he has studied or worked with nearly every species of bird of prey, and is a leading authority on the Harris' hawk.

A series of scientific papers, articles, and book chapters have resulted from Jim's field research. Jim has written for documentary films, contributed segments to film projects, and The National Geographic Society chose his research as the subject for the Emmy Award-winning film "Wolves of the Air."

Jim has worked with most state and federal wildlife/land management agencies and with private companies such as Arizona Public Service, Salt River Project, and Westinghouse Corporation. This experience underpins his personal philosophy of using sound science and a partnership approach to find workable solutions to conflict issues.
