End of Year

Here is a brief list of some of the highlights at Liberty Wildlife in the past year.
We:

  • took in and assisted 2906 native animals. (The number of species involved was 124; please see the list here)
  • assisted over 400 non-native animals.
  • provided 364 educational programs across the state.
  • broadened our programs that feature birds in flight.
  • added three new fund-raising opportunities: Casino Night, Born To Be Wild, and Birdies Fore Birds golf tournament.
  • continue to improve our flight cages at our current facility.
  • increased funding to our capital campaign.
  • began construction plans for the new facility and have a case manager with the City of Phoenix for permit issues.
  • are in negotiations to add two new contracts to our Research and Conservation group.
  • are working on a grant received from the Arizona Game and Fish to interpret and lead tours in the Baseline and Meridian area near Avondale.
  • introduced the AWE (Assisting Wildlife Educators) sponsorship program in support of our educational ambassadors.
  • enhanced and updated our Web site, with more to come.
  • continue to distribute our online newsletter, Nature News, as well as our annual newsletter, WingBeats.
  • this Week at Liberty continues to make the rounds, giving all who receive it a close-up look at our weekly intake and activities.
  • were invited to release two red-tailed hawks from the SkyBridge at the Grand Canyon.
  • started a Liberty Wildlife Roots and Shoots program.
  • had over 100 new people go through volunteer orientation.
  • joined in with a diverse group of organizations in support of "Be Outside, AZ," a coalition designed to encourage Arizonans to spend more time in the out-of-doors.
  • continue for a fourth year to participate in the Citizen Stewardship Coalition funded by the Arizona Community Foundation.

This reminds me to thank all of you who have supported our efforts in some way. This impressive list of accomplishments would have been difficult if not impossible to do without your part. Thank you for your belief in us, and for your support of Arizona's native wildlife.
