Unintended Visitor

By: Gail Cochrane,
Liberty Wildlife Volunteer

The AWE program allows fans of Liberty's awesome education birds to help provide food and care to one or more of their favorites. In return for a onetime $30 donation, AWE sponsors receive a trading card with a picture of their adoptee and the story of how the bird came to Liberty. An additional 8" x 10" glossy photo of the animal is awarded to those contributing at the $100 level. What a great solution to the Christmas list conundrum! There is an education bird to tickle the fancy of everyone on your list.

Answering the Age Old Question. How Long Do Birds Live?

By: Greg Martin,
Medical Services Volunteer

It's really no different than asking how long a human being lives. Climate, diet, genes, stress, conflict, and many other factors play a role in determining the final number. As far as birds go, it's important to remember that there are usually two very divergent answers given to this question: one for wild animals, and another for those in human care.

What is Citizen Science?

By: Claudia Kirscher,
Liberty Wildlife Volunteer

"Projects in which volunteers partner with scientists to answer real-world questions."
-The Cornell Lab of Ornithology

No matter where you live, your age, beginner or seasoned bird-watcher, or how much time you have to devote, you can provide scientists with important, and otherwise unobtainable, data. You can contribute significant information to help track changes in bird population numbers, conservation needs, health of bird species, nesting success or failures, migration patterns, and development of designated and protected "Important Bird Areas."
