Alicia Love has been an Orphan Care volunteer since 2006, and is currently also working in the Rescue Transport area. She is an Applied Biological Sciences major at Arizona State University Polytechnic. She is a senior, and looking forward to graduation in December of this year. The following are the results of a research project.
I analyzed intake data for a final project in Ornithology. A total of 507 birds were described and included all raptors, roadrunners, crows and ravens. Paper charts were evaluated and I recorded the date the animal was brought in, the species, the age, reason for rescue, and the final disposition. I then sorted and analyzed the data using Microsoft Excel.
Many of Liberty Wildlife's education birds have quite a following of fans….volunteers and people from the community who have met these beautiful birds and fallen in love with them.
Last year we started the Assistance for Wildlife Educators (AWE) program, which allows folks to sponsor their favorite bird, supplying the money to keep their feathered fave well-fed for twelve months. It is time to think about renewing those AWE sponsorships, or taking on a new one. Help Liberty care for these precious ambassadors who do so much to teach people about the native species of the desert.
The local PBS Channel 8 sponsors Be More Awards to spotlight local nonprofits and to encourage the public to Be More and help others. Liberty Wildlife has an entry in the People’s Choice Poll, which is open for voting now through March 31.
