Education

Liberty Wildlife’s Education volunteers have developed a variety of programs focusing on native species, natural history, environmental awareness, and human impact.
These informative presentations and activities utilize live, non-releasable wildlife, hands-on displays, puppets and more – providing a memorable and effective experience for all ages.


Educational Offerings

SUBJECT MATTER:

SUMMARY OF INFORMATION:

Program uses wildlife either in a booth setup or able to go into classrooms, auditoriums, etc.

In-Class Presentations

  • Naturalist in Residence, customized wildlife and environmental program, education representatives spend one month in school, choose from a menu of programs, curriculum provided based on state goals for education, native wildlife in-classroom presentations, interactive activities, co-operative learning activities
  • Class to Field, four-week program focusing on birds and environment, each week presents a new concept, live native wildlife brought into classroom, full curriculum provided, supporting activities and materials provided, culminates in birding field trip with experienced birders
  • Natural History/Environmental, programs with live wildlife, trained presenters, displays, interactive activities (all grades)
  • Primary Focus (grades 1, 2, 3), lending library, natural history books supplied for class reading, curriculum provided to develop concepts, live native wildlife brought in for one class session
  • Reading Round-Up (grades 3,4,5), lending library, natural history book supplied for class reading, curriculum provided to develop concepts, live native wildlife brought in for one class session
  • Wildlife Identification (grades 7 and 8), funded and in development at this time, lending library, computer birding software, targeted study of natural history of wild birds, can be customized to meet different needs and study, loan of a laptop computer included
  • Wildlife Artist, in developmental stage, artist-led workshop, materials provided for children to keep, live wildlife brought into small group, creative concepts and expression
  • Education Takes Flight, (in development), a small raptor is free-flight trained, natural history presentation includes flight in classroom, curriculum provided
  • Birds in Flight, in development, birds of prey are free-flown in an outdoor setting, natural history presentation, curriculum provided
  • Songs, The Raptor Rap, The Migration Jubilation
  • Puppet Shows, The Tree and the Lumberjack, Duck Rescue, The Raptor Rap

Booth Settings

Schedule

The way to schedule Liberty Wildlife Education's group to come to your school or community event is to call the Wildlife Hotline, 480.998.5550, and leave a message in the Education mailbox.

The education programs are conducted from October 1 – May 1. After Labor Day, you can call to schedule an education program for your school or community organization. Children's programs are offered for grades one and higher. There is no fee, although donations are gratefully accepted. Programs usually last from 45 minutes to an hour.
